The 2025โ26 refrigerant transition (R-454B)
Under the EPA's AIM Act rules, since January 1, 2025 new residential AC and heat pump equipment can no longer be manufactured or imported using high-GWP refrigerants like R-410A. New systems use lower-GWP R-454B or R-32 (both mildly flammable A2L refrigerants requiring updated handling).
